Summer is nearly here and if you're me, that means you have a good two weeks of being super productive before settling into the lethargy of summer vacation. Which means I'll start walking, cooking and catching up on my favourite podcasts that I've been neglecting. I love podcasts, but I'm also very particular about what I like to listen to, so I thought I would share a list of my favourite paranormal podcasts.

My Top 5 Paranormal Podcasts

  1. For the Gothic Heroine: Only 19 episodes but it’s worth three times as many. She talks about both films and books and it’s incredibly well researched. I had no idea what a long and complex history Gothic fiction had.

  2. Camp Monsters: In general, I'm not a big fan of cryptids. Just not my particular brand of catnip. I’m a ghost and vamp girl, through and through. But this podcast is amazing. It’s really not like any other podcasts I’ve listened to. Did you ever watch “Are you afraid of the dark?” I loved that show. Every week, a group of friends would meet in the forest, around a campfire and one person would tell a tale to scare the rest. It was a brilliant yet simple framing device. This podcast works a little like that. Imagine you find yourself in the middle of the Ozarks, or on Lake Tahoe, or any quiet, secluded place. You find a man there, sitting by the fire and he spins a yarn that will pull you in and keep you there for the next half hour. It’s an incredible example of story-telling.

  3. Two Girls, One Ghost- Listening to this podcast really feels like having a chat with a couple of your best girlfriends (and maybe a resident ghost that haunts the podcast and makes an occasional appearance). The episodes alternate between some theme episodes (like summer vacation haunts or haunted asylums) and listener stories. For me, the listener stories are the most terrifying. Love them!

  4. Lore- The extent of research that goes into this podcast is beyond impressive. A lot of thought and care goes into each episode; the writing, the pacing, music...I could go on and on. It’s more like a documentary, really. You can check out the TV show on Amazon Prime, too. The first season is basically the podcast but with great graphics. The second season is more of a reenactment which I was less of a fan of.

  5. And That’s Why We Drink- There are two parts to this podcast; one host always tells stories about the paranormal/supernatural, while the second host always chooses a true crime story. I’m not the biggest fan of true crime, to be honest, so that’s part of why it’s my number five choice. The other reason is a personal preference...the inside jokes and tangents go on a bit long for my tastes and I find myself skipping forward a lot. This isn’t one of the most well-researched shows out there either but they make up for it with personality.

So that’s it, those are my top 5 paranormal podcasts. Do you have any favourites that I missed and I should check out? Let me know! I'm always on the lookout for more podcasts :)
